Of late there has been much talk about 'hackers' (the press no doubt misuses this term) and 'real programmers'. I would like to pin-down the exact nature of a 'hacker' and a 'real programmer'. Please send me mail about what you think the attributes of the affore- mentioned people are. There are some specific things that I would like to know, such as: 1) What do 'hackers' and 'real programmers' look like? 2) What do they eat? 3) What kind of things do they do with computers? 4) What kind of computers do they use? 5) Where do they live, and what kind of place is it in which they reside? 6) Where do they come from? (High schools, colleges, etc.) 7) What languages do they use? 8) In what environment do they function best? There are, of course, a miriad of things that might describe a 'hacker' and a 'real programmer', but the above will get you started. Also, what kind of computer is for *real* men? What makes you respond in such a way? If there is enough response I will, given time, post an approximately comprehensive summary. Thanks in advance. "If it isn't one thing, it's another."
