[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Installing Seagate ST421 in PC clone

nts0699@dsacg1.UUCP (Gene McManus) (04/11/88)

I have come across an old Seagate ST421 10MB drive that I would like to
install in my Brand-Z PC clone, which currently has a 20MB half-height
hard drive. I'm looking for some general installation info on the drive,
since I don't have a manual. Drive was removed from an out-of-service
DEC Rainbow 100B.

Does someone out there know the correct dip jumper setup (on the on-board
controller) for this to be a second drive in a PC? There is currently one
trace in the dip jumper cut. Drive will be used with a Western Digital
controller. Any special problems to be aware of when doing a low-level
format, etc?

Also, am I correct in assuming that I'll need a 'double-header' control
cable as well as a second data cable?

Thanx for your advice
Gene
