I've recently seen Archive XL catridge tape drives advertised in the low $300 range. From what I can gather, the characteristics of these drives are: - 40M capacity on QIC-40 tapes - Comes in XT and AT versions - Uses the floppy controller I am assuming that the XT version has an interface similar to the 360K 5" floppy and the AT version has an interface similar to 1.2M 5" or 8" floppies. I would like to use this drive with my Z100, which has 8" floppy capability. I have no problem with hacking up a cable to connect my controller to the drive. Is anybody using either version of this tape drive? Does it stream? What software are you using with it? Have you found a good (inexpensive) source of tapes? A similar drive from Cipher that I worked with a few years ago looked to the controller like 3 floppy drives. What does the Archive XL look like to the controller? Please mail me your experiences. I often don't have time to stay caught up with comp.sys.ibm.pc! I will post a summary in a couple weeks. Thanks!
