There seems to be a constant problem with people misunderstanding the purpose of net.general and posting "inappropriate" things to it. Glacier's net.general currently has 140 messages in it, and only about 9 of them are on topics that seem to fit the definition of that newsgroup. Clearly the current technique (flaming at people when they post something that you don't like) is not working, and the name "net.general" is not at all mnemonic. I really enjoyed somebody's explanation that many uses of net.general were "like standing up in a crowded theater and shouting 'car for sale'". I would like to propose that net.general be eliminated, and replaced with some combination of new or existing groups. Maybe net.urgent or net.important would be a better name for the group carrying its intended traffic, and net.random or net.misc should be the default newgroup name.
