[comp.sys.ibm.pc] XTREE tip for quick directory scan.

murillo@sigi.Colorado.EDU (Rodrigo Murillo) (04/21/88)

There has been some discussion on XTREE and one of its 'faults/features':
The fact that it scans the entire disk before presenting the structure,
which can take a long time.

If you want to save time and isolate one directory structure, use SUBST:

   subst y: \dirname
   xtree y:

XTREE pops up in a flash, only scanning \dirname. Very handy. This is
for DOS 3.x users only, and you should have a line in config.sys that reads

     lastdrive=z

This will give you 26 logical drives for easy SUBSTitution.

With all this discussion of XTREE and Norton Commander, I just wanted to ask:
Does anybody else out there use QDOSII? (Plug) I use it all the time. It
stores a log of your HD so that it doesn't have to scan the disk every time.

It has a built in editor and all the other things you expect. BEST: it is fast!

Could you please post an address and phone number where QDOSII can
be obtained, and the price? Thanks.
