A couple of days ago, I made mention of a new version of the MKS Toolkit in reply to another posting. Since then, my mailbox has been overflowing with requests for information. To save some disk space, and some net costs, I'm going to post this outline of what's in the new version. I'll try to keep this non-commercial and to-the-point. For the more commercial stuff, we'll be posting in comp.newprod real soon now. Version 2.3 of the MKS Toolkit contains some new commands, and some enhancements to existing commands. New commands include: compress and uncompress - compresses and restores files diff3 - compares three files for differences nl - numbers lines spell - spell checker, including dictionary (compressed) tty - displays terminal name yacc - parser generator Enhancements to existing commands include: cpio - now includes LZ compression diff - now handles larger files with more differences sh - improvements in quoting and parameter expansion, now works on Novell and PC-NFS networks, better vi and emacs editing modes ls - code for the -C (columns) option now built in init - now reads /etc/inittab to run programs or load TSRs when system boots, now has -T option to specify use of serial port instead of console awk - now faster, with closer conformance to Aho, Weinberger, Kernighan spec. misc - many commands altered to work on Novell and other networks The list price has gone up slightly. Upgrades for owners of previous versions are available. Watch for our posting in comp.newprod for prices, availability, etc. -- Gerry Wheeler Phone: (519)884-2251 Mortice Kern Systems Inc.
