[comp.sys.ibm.pc] "Error in EXE program" machine lockup

unbent@ecsvax.UUCP (Jay F. Rosenberg) (05/10/88)

I tried out vgif.com, the fast GIF file viewer, yesterday, and I
must say that the results were spectacular. It worked like a dream -- ONCE.
Unfortunately, upon my return to DOS, I discovered that nothing else would
run. "Error in EXE program" was all it would say to me. Time for a reboot!
Afterwards, everything worked again -- including the GIF viewer, ONCE.
"Error in EXE program" time again. I suspect my dirt cheap Taiwanese EGA
clone card is probably the culprit, but I'm open to suggestions. Anyone
know what causes such behavior and, more importantly, anyone have any ideas
regarding what I can *do* about it?
System particulars: Running a Standard Turbo-XT (from Compuadd),
with their house-brand EGA card, NEC Multisynch, assorted stuff memory
resident (Sidekick, Superkey, Quickeys, PC Mouse drivers, etc.) I don't
imaging the disk-drive configuration is relevant on this occasion.
Advice and, especially, fixes will be warmly appreciated. Thanx.
