We have Ventura Publisher on one of our AT's. It would be nice to keep our LaserJet II hooked up to the server and tell Ventura to print bitmap files that could then be printed over the network. This doesn't work, though; NPRINT is apparently too stupid to tell when the LaserJet's buffer is full. (DOS PRINT has the same problem.) So the only way we can get Ventura output is to have the LaserJet hooked directly to the AT with Ventura driving the printer directly. Does anyone know of a utility to get us around this? Thanks in advance. -- Mark McWiggins UUCP: uunet!intek01!mark DISCLAIMER: I could be wrong. INTERNET: intek01!mark@uunet.uu.net (206) 641-5014

Your problem with printing binary files to the HP Laserjet is not with the Novell or DOS software, it is with the interface cabling. The Laser will automagically do Xon/Xoff or DTR/CTS handshaking. Novell is capable of supporting both, you MUST tell it which one to use. DOS can support only hardware handshaking (DTR/CTS) without being modified. Since you say it doesn't work with either DOS or Novell, I suggest you run the Novell Install program and set the com port to do Xon/Xoff handshaking. You evidently have it set to do DTR/CTS and the cable is not set up for hardware handshake. Another way is to fix the cable to pass the DTR/CTS signals which will give you the advantage of letting it work with plain PC type equipment, never mind the software being used.
