[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Help with Volkswriter Deluxe

aehl@csd4.milw.wisc.edu.UUCP (06/04/88)

I am posting this for a friend so please bear with me...

I am not very familiar with IBM PC computers or software, so I can't help
him, however I have Net access so I thought that I might post a description
of his situation and try and get some responce.

By the way, ANY response would be greatly appreciated...

Oh well, here goes nothin:

He is using Volkswriter Deluxe, with an original IBM PC computer, which is
connected to a Hewlet Packard LaserJet Printer.

In order to achieve a better "look" for his printouts, he wanted to alter
the way in which Volkswriter Deluxe spaces the words when outputted to his
laser printer.

He contacted a salesperson at Volkswriter's company number and got a
suggestion for adjusting the printout parameters. He was told to look for
a file called VWPR35.TBL on his Volkswriter disk and modify the spacing
number from its' original value of 9.0 to 6.0.

What this does is space the WORDS closer together (but only the words, not
the letters in the words, THIS IS NOT KERNING). When he printed out the
text from Volkswriter to his HP LaserJet printer, sure enough, it spaced
the words closer together. The printout look great when in ragged
(unjustified mode).

However, when printing in the Justified mode, his printout was un-
satisfactory. The Program did not comphensate for the smaller spacing
between words and the right edge of the printout (while in the flush-left
mode of justification) was still slightly ragged.

My guess is that the program's justification routine needs to be patched.
Is there anyone out there who can pass along information on just how to
do this? Both I, and my friend, would appreciate this.

Just in case you wondered, he asked the salesperson how to correct the
problem, but was given the old "no possible, no no, very bad..." routine.
My guess is that he just didn't know enough about the program.
I'm hoping that someone out there in Net-land will know more about it than
him. thanks for listening.
