Thanks to everyone who gave me suggestions concerning my memoy upgrade problem. The solution was not a too expensive one. Since I could not split a bank of memory between base memory and extended memory, I was forced to buy an extended memory board. I now have 640k on the motherboard and 512k on a Dr. Dr. Zucker Zuckerboard. This piece of hardware was about $80.00 and can be expanded to hold up to 9meg of extended memory. I now have a 128k print buffer and a 384k disk-cache. Everything is working rather well. If you have anything else that I might want to put in the extra memory, please tell. If you are thinking about upping you memory please be warned about the following.... 1. Chip prices are high! To up your memory by 512k you will need 18 256k drams. These chips will run you $12.00-$15.00 *EACH*. I got a steal from a local electrronics store that had almost enough going for $5.95 each. 2. Make sure that the chips are the right speed. If your machine is 1 wait state you can go with slow (120-150 nsec) chips but if your machine is a 0 wait state machine you will need the faster chips. 3. Be *very* careful when replacing the chips. A bent pin is nothing to get too worried about but even on a humid day and even after discharging myself I still managed to blow out 2 chips. Since this was my first try at something like this I probably made a stupid move and got charged somehow..... From now on, I will always have one hand touching a grounded surface. It is nice to watch the memory check go up to 1152k when I boot the machine. Now to add another terminal and get some multi-tasking going..... -- _____________________________________________________________________________ |o| Jonathan Joshua jjoshua@topaz.rutgers.edu Why not... |o| |o| Nothing better to do |o| |o| Anything is possible, |o| \o| except for skiing through a revolving door. |o| \_ ____/ \ |o| \/ \ _______________________________ ______________________|o| \___ / \/ \/
