To all of you people who give a D*mn about the current gripes going around
about PK VS SEA...
There have been comments (i.e. flames) made that PK is 'guilty' for
making his software in the image of SEA's software.. True, it does
have the look and feel of SEA's ARC, but that's where similarity
comes to a screeching halt.. PK(X)ARC is definitely faster, and just
as accurate as ARC is. People gripe because PK* isn't compatible
with SEA's ARC compression style. So what.. PKARC is a far superior
tool. What would you rather use to win the GRAN PRIX, a Model T, or a
Formula I?
On a similar note: Why doesn't IBM sue all the manufacturers of
PC/XT & '286 clones? Because it would be pointless to do so.
The clones are generally faster, just as reliable, and less expensive
to buy than an ORIGINAL IBM.
Phil Katz was just refining a tool that already existed. If doctors
didn't implement their ideas, and show the rest of the medical
world their "New Techniques", we would all be very sick, or just
plain dead people. Maybe Phil Katz should give away his source code
to the people of the world. But, then what? There will most likely
be some jerk who'll think it'd be cute to "Bastardize" PKARC. That's just
throwing a monkey-wrench into the works. Phil Katz would then be forced
to withdraw any future 'give-aways' of source code to the world. He's
a smart person, who knows his Machine Code. Survival of the fittest
would be VERY applicable here. If SEA is so upset with PK's software,
then why don't they start writing portions of their code in MASM?
They aren't helpless or dumb. They just don't like Change that much.
Someone has to be the one to make the new invention, or just to improve
on what's been made already. If automobile designers didn't do this,
then we'd be stuck with some old model Ford that goes REAL slow!
Progress is the way to go. Otherwise, we get nowhere fast. Chasin'
our tails, etc..
