[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Display blinking

In regards to flicker on CGA cards... the IBM ROM BIOS has the annoying
habit of scrolling by using the following sequence of steps:

1) Turning off the display

2) Scrolling the text

3) Turning the display back on.

This eliminates the snow effect from refreshing during scanning, but causes the
display to blink when scrolling.

One nice way of getting by this is to use FlickerFree by Steve Gibson (adver-
tised in many Computer Rags). This basically replaces the INT 10 BIOS with
a fairly small (a few k I think) TSR program. It GREATLY speeds up the display
and eliminates snow and flicker on CGA and MDA displays. In fact, you have to
slow it down many times to read whats going by. FlickerFree is about $49.
