[comp.sys.ibm.pc] TEAC 3.5" drive jumper setting, help needed.

francis@hslrswi.UUCP ( Francis Demierre) (07/13/88)

Hello out there,

I'm posting this question for a friend of mine who has bougth a 3.5"
TEAC diskette drive model fd-135fn-75-u. He bought it in Singapore and
did not get all the documentation with it (You get cheap things from there
but bits are often missing ! :-) )

Lets come to the two questions:

1. He has been told that this drive is an 80 tracks drive able to make 720K
disks but he did not succeed to use it as a 720k drive.
   Any comments ?

2. On the right side of the drive box (looking from the front of the drive),
there is a hole in which there are pins and jumpers that look somethig
   like this:

            ? D D D D ? ? ?
            ? 0 1 2 3 ? ? ?

I understood that connecting the two pins under D0 D1 D2 or D3 is to select
which logical drive the physical drive is ( D0=A, D1=B, etc...)
Please tell me if I am wrong !

I do not have any idea of what the other pins are. Please help me .....

My friend (and myself) will be very grateful for any help.
You can mail you answers directly to me or at this group or at both.
Thank you in advance.

Yes, TEAC 3.5" drives can be used as 720K drives. You need a PC or PC/XT
to be able to hook it up and use it. You need DOS 3.2+ and a different
connector on the cable. I have used the TEAC FD-35F-03-U without problems.
But, these floppies will not work attached to AT computers. The pinout
connections are wrong. No other details available.

For PCs, the drive is always selected as D1. The cabling determines the
actual drive selected.

< I do not have any idea of what the other pins are. Please help me .....

Since your model number is a little different, I can't help with the other
positions.
