[comp.sys.ibm.pc] HELP: Almost given up on ATI's VIP card!

toshio@dhw68k.cts.com (George Toshio Suematsu) (07/29/88)

Hello,

ATI's VIP video card clams to be VGA/EGA/CGA compatible, but the screen's
image jumps about once per second in EGA modes.

I have a Sony CPD-1302 MULTISCAN monitor running in analog mode on an
AST Premium 286. I've tried NEC MultiSync monitors and IBM AT's with
success. But when I put the VIP card in a friend's AST with his Sony
monitor (same configurtion as mine), he gets the same results.

I thought it might be a compatiblity problem, but ATI says otherwise.
So, I mailed it in for diagnostics and repair. I mailed the board via
US mail on June 23. It arrived at ATI June 30. I did not receive it
until July 25. This took _OVER ONE MONTH_.

It came back with updated ROMs. I put the board in, fired the system
up. _NO CHANGE_.

I've called ATI three times since. Each time I call the Technical
Support people are not available. They still haven't called back.

Does anyone have experience with the ATI VIP? Are you pleased? Does
anyone have the same symptoms?

Thanks in advance,
