Can anyone offer advice on compressing files for transfer between a VAX running UNIX and a PC running MS-DOS (not Xenix or anything similar)? I have large text files stored on the VAX, which I compress by using the "compress" command. When I need to download them to my PC I first uncompress them and then download them. To send them back to the VAX I upload the file and compress it on the VAX when it arrives. Is there an MS-DOS compress/uncompress program that can deal with the compressed files produced on the VAX? Ideally, it would be able to handle EOL translation as well, although I can deal with that separately on the PC end if necessary. Replies can be emailed to djb@wjh12.harvard.edu (Internet) or djb@harvunxw.bitnet (Bitnet). Thanks. --David Birnbaum
