stevec@godzilla.ele.toronto.edu (Stephen Curran) (04/08/88)

I have heard that there is a new release of WordPerfect due any-time-now.
Does anyone know of what the new features will be? When is distribution
to begin?

thanks,

Hope there is a possibility that someone out there might, just might
know the answer. Recently acquired new 5.0 version of Word Perfect.
However, I can only get the standard font on my printer. I very
much want to accress the enlarged print as I make my own letterheads
that way. I have a Panasonic KX-P1091 printer, which I think is
now discontinued, and W.P. does not as yet have a driver for it.
As per reommendation of Panasonic have been using Epson FX-80.
I worked with W.P. Customer Service for over a half hour, but
they could not make my printer access anything but the standard
fonts. Would appreciate any help/suggrestions that anyone might
have re: this. (P.S. W.P. claims they will issue a driver "soon
for the Panasonic KX-P1091).

I wrote a letter to WordPerfect Inc. a while back complaining about what I
saw as a lack of proper kerning in the first release of WP 5.0 for the PC.
I sent them sample outputs from WP5.0 and Microsoft Word 4.0 (which does
relatively good kerning on a LaserJet II with a Microsoft font cartridge).

A tech support person called me today to talk about my letter to them
(score one for WordPerfect's customer support). She said that kerning was
indeed broken in the first release of WP5.0 and apologized for that. She
also said that the current maintenance release (which I received last week)
fixes that problem.

There may also be a problem for those of you who ordered the free Bitstream
soft fonts for WP5.0. I and a few other folks received a misshipment. My
set contained two installation disks and four font disks (two of the font
disks were identical Swiss font files). There are supposed to be three
installation disks and three font disks. So, if you haven't tried your
Bitstream fonts yet, check to see what you received. You may have to call
WordPerfect to get another set of disks.
