I'm looking at various machines for my daughter, who is entering graduate school this fall (not in science or engineering). Compu Add, a Texas mail-order company, advertises a 12 MHz 286 machine with 1Mb RAM, 20 Mb hard disk, and an Epson LX800 printer, for about $1700. Does anyone have any experience with this company, good or bad?

I got my current AT clone (12mhz) there and have had no problems with it (including running it with a 1.44mb floppy drive and an Orchid VGA card. I think the one in the starter kit is 1-wait state, while the one they sell separately is 0-waits. (But I had to switch it to 1 wait when I installed the VGA...something I didn't know I'd have to do). Anyway, my dealings with the company have been fine, including shipping products when they said that would and reimburcing me for a board that I decided I didn't need. Usual disclaimers... --Peter ------------------------------------------ -------------------------------- Peter Baer Galvin (203)432-1254 Senior Systems Programmer galvin-peter@cs.yale.edu 51 Prospect St, P.O.Box 2158, Yale Station ucbvax!decvax!yale!galvin-peter New Haven, Ct 06457 galvin-peter@yalecs.bitnet
