I have access to a person who has a beta copy of MS-DOS 4.0 (from MicroSoft, not IBM). Unfortunately, it shares a *bad* characteristic with PC-DOS 4.0, according to this person. She gave up on it because... Floppies created under DOS 4.0 can't be read by any version before 3.3! This makes any person who upgrades rather incompatible with most of the world. If I assume that this is not considered a bug by Microsoft (hopefully I'm wrong!), then it probably will not be fixed. Remember that their answer to most questions of this sort has been "everybody should upgrade to the latest version". I for one am not going to rush out and buy this thing. I deal with too many people who can't upgrade for one reason or another (usually $$$). Pete PS: I mentioned a while back that DOS 3.3 used much more RAM than DOS 3.2. I got quizzical feedback from some people who hadn't noticed this. I went back and re-ran the test last week, and found my problem: *PC*DOS 3.3 is much bigger than *MS*DOS 3.2. Sorry about that! I've gotta control the variables better in these experiments! -- OOO __| ___ Peter Holzmann, Octopus Enterprises OOOOOOO___/ _______ USPS: 19611 La Mar Court, Cupertino, CA 95014 OOOOO \___/ UUCP: {hpda, pyramid}!octopus!pete ___| \_____ Phone: 408/996-7746
