[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Getting Upset With The People At Dell

john@agora.UUCP (John Cavanaugh) (08/27/88)

I am not sure if I have a warrent to complain yet but I am getting a
bit upset with the people at Dell computers. I ordered a system 220 from
them on the 12th of this month. Since I will be going back to school on
the 29th an heard that they were behind in their shipping dates, I asked
them about it. They said that because they had just opened their 3rd
assembly plant, they should have the system out in a week and a half. Just
to make sure I ordered it with overnight shipping just in case. The system
arrived on the 19th which came as a big suprise. Opened it up and hooked
it up and found that I was having problems with the monitor. I was getting
horizontal lines scrolling up the screen. I checked all of the knobs and
made sure the connections with both the monitor to the board and the board
in the system were secure and then called them. The person I talked to
said that it did indeed sound like a problem with the monitor and that they
would send me another one overnight but since it was late (It was like 6:30
their time on Friday the 19th) it would probably get shipped on Monday so I
should have it on Tuesday. I thanked him and waited around until Tuesday
When the monitor didn't show up, I called them to see what was the matter.
The person I talked to said that because the guy I talked to on Friday hadn't
placed a exchange number on the monitor, it had sat at their shipping dock
and hadn't gone out yet. The person I talked to said he would take care of
it and it would be shipped either that day (Tuesday) or the next so that I
would have it by Thursday.

By this time, I was a little concerned about things getting to me so I
called them back on Wednesday to make sure the monitor got out alright. The
person I talked to said that while they had record of everything they
didn't show a shipping date so for all he knew, it could still be sitting
on the dock but that he would get back to me after he figured out what exactly
was going on. He called back and told me that it WOULD go out that day
(Wednesday) and that I WOULD have it on Thursday. I thanked him and as he
said the monitor did arrive on Thursday. Plugged it in and it worked fine.
The system was fast I started to take on the task of just what to do with
40Mb of empty space...

Brought it home and used it all day today without a glitch, then tonight
went up and turned it on and the monitor looked exactly like the first
one did: with the horizontal lines...Checked everything out again and
like the first time, everything seemed fine as far as the connections went.

What pisses me off is that while I was first impressed with their fast
shipping, I would have much rather, now that I start school in 4 days, have
the shipping date been a little later and have everything work than have
it get here early and not work.

Well, am I forming my opinions too quickly? Have other people out there
had stuff like this happen? All of the other PC's I have dealt with have
all been true blue and haven't had problems with th, but thats another
story.
