[comp.sys.ibm.pc] PC Monitor on COM-port, How?

merat@radix (Merat Bagha) (08/20/88)

Not too long ago someone mentioned a package that lets one put the PC
monitor on COM1 or COM2. As I did not save this, any pointers would
be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Try one of the "remote access" programs, specifically REMOTE
(now Remote-2) from DCA (The Xtalk folks), or PCAnywhere, from EKD,
in Selden NY (516) 736-0500.
They support 'dumb terminals' as the remote dial-in, and I'm quite sure
can just be used with a local termina. Why do you want one? To run a
downstairs PC from upstairs?
How do they work? Well, when I tried Remote several years ago, you just
used ESC-1 to simulate F1 on the PC, etc.
I now have PCAnywhere, but haven't used the dumb term modes as the remote
terminal software with it lets you use another PC and directly ref the F1
key etc. But there is mention of supporting dumb termnals.
I got my PCA from a consultant - Martin Schiff (305) 644-2994. Tell
him I sent 'ya.
