Regarding a dead original PC/AT 30mb hard disk (type 20, 5 heads, 733 cyls): After moving the AT to a new location, I fire it up only to get `Hard drive 0 error' messages when I try to boot. A quick check with SpeedStor comes up with `Can't get drive parameters', so I run a track check and it comes up with bad tracks from 0,0 on up. Attempting to low-level format the thing comes up with `Seek error on track 0'. Hmmm... I did not specifically run setup to park the heads before transport, but the OS (Xenix) always parks the heads on shutdown. At least it makes the drive activity light go solid red, which supposedly indicates parked heads. Anyway, has anyone got any clues as to what might have died, or how I can go about repairing the damage ? Any help will (obviously :-() be appreciated. Here is one possibility: A real "crash" of heads against disk is unlikely to produce such a consistent set of errors. It sounds more like a connector just got knocked loose during moving. Check the two cables from the controller to the drive to make sure they are correctly in place. Good Luck! Bob Wilson
