Is it feasible to write a disk driver to read (and preferrably write) Apple II (GS?) disks on an AT compatible? Does anyone know of source and/or binary for one that might already exist? Does anyone know where I can get specs on the Apple 5.25-inch disk format? I only have a HD drive on my AT. Would I need a 360K drive? Ordinarily, I wouldn't expect it to be a problem, once I get the specs. But I seem to recall reading that Wozniak's original disk format relied on a variable-speed drive. (Right? Something like he maintained constant linear velocity ... bit density ... whereas drives today maintain constant angular velocity.) Anyway, for whatever reason, I thought it required h/w to read original Apple disk. Is that still the case? Ken Mintz

It's still the case that the original Apple disks need special hardware if you want to read them on a PC type machine. I don't know if it's true of their newest drives. You can get the necessary hardware from Micro Solutions in DeKalb, Il. I think you want the Matchpoint-PC product.
