[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Info. request about the NEC PC

arman@oahu.cs.ucla.edu (09/05/88)

Dear netters,

I'm looking for ANY information, Japanese or English, regarding the
NEC PC (i.e. the NEC 9801.) For those of you who are wondering, this
is NOT an IBM compatible machine, eventhough it is based on the 80x86
chips and runs MS-DOS! It also accounts for most of the PC sales in
Japan and you're guranteed to get sued by NEC if you make a clone!

Thank you in advance,
I'll summarize if there is any response.

What kind of information are you looking for? It's the standard version
of the (U.S. import) APC-III, so most documentation is similar. We have
a few 9801's here in a lab, and some technical documentation (in
Japanese). NEC support is generally very good, and you should be able
to get everything you need from them. The APC-III was marketed by
their Home Electronics division, not the Information Systems
division.
