Dear netters, I'm looking for ANY information, Japanese or English, regarding the NEC PC (i.e. the NEC 9801.) For those of you who are wondering, this is NOT an IBM compatible machine, eventhough it is based on the 80x86 chips and runs MS-DOS! It also accounts for most of the PC sales in Japan and you're guranteed to get sued by NEC if you make a clone! Thank you in advance, I'll summarize if there is any response. -- Arman Bostani // UCLA Computer Science Department // +1 213-825-3194 3417 Boelter Hall // Los Angeles, California 90024-1596 // USA arman@CS.UCLA.EDU ...!(ucbvax,rutgers)!ucla-cs!arman

What kind of information are you looking for? It's the standard version of the (U.S. import) APC-III, so most documentation is similar. We have a few 9801's here in a lab, and some technical documentation (in Japanese). NEC support is generally very good, and you should be able to get everything you need from them. The APC-III was marketed by their Home Electronics division, not the Information Systems division.
