In the process of looking for an XT/AT clone to recommend to purchase, and also catching up on some back issues of Byte, I noticed a couple of ads from a company called Zeos International, Ltd. (St. Paul, Mn), which advertised a 286 system for only $1295. The system has the following features: 6/12 MHz 80286, 0 wait states, Phoenix BIOS 80287 math coprocessor socket 512k 80ns RAM standard, expandable to 1 Mbyte on the motherboard 200W power supply real time clock/calendar with battery backup hard/floppy disk controller, 1:1 interleave, 800 kb/sec throughput (sounds like the Northgate sytsem, using an Adapatec cntrl and RLL drive) 1.2 Mb 5 1/4" floppy 32 Mbyte hard drive (64 Mbyte system (probably a second 32 Mbyte drive) listed for only $3000 more ($1595) high resolution momchrome graphics card 12" amber hi res monchrome monitor with tilt and swivel base 101 ket AT style extended keyboard case has 3 1/2 height front mounting slots (maybe one is for internal hard disk), with keylock, reset button, and status LED display. They also advertise: 30 money money back guarantee 1 year limited warranty on parts and labor Federal Express replacement of any failed part for first year. The system sounds very nice. Almost too nice. I think for $1295 it would be a great system to recommend, but the saying, "If it sounds too nice to be true, it must be" is lurking in the back of my mind. The fact that they are based in Minnesota instead of somewhere in Silicon Valley gives me that impression that they aren't just another fly by night company selling what just came off the boat from Taiwan. If anyone has had any experience with either the company or their computers, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Jeff White Drexel University - ECE Dept. rutgers!bpa!drexel!jeff
