Questions, questions, questions. Egads! This time, the Everex '386 box will not run any non-windows specific applications. Calls to Microsoft, Everex, the Pope have not helped. Does anyone have any experience with possible bug-a-boos in setting up a Windows/386 environment, especially in getting non-Windows programs to run? Also, could anyone comment on using DeskView on a 386 system. We would like to take advantage of the 4 meg memory space on this machine. Also, Microsoft indicates that Tops will not run under Windows. Would DeskView also have this problem. Again, thanks for any & all comments. Mail is welcome, but be aware that this node has had difficulties receiving mail. -- Bill Douglass, TCADA "I dreamed I was to take a test, in a Dairy Queen, on another planet." L. Anderson

William Douglas asks how well DESQview runs on a '386 with 4 MB of RAM. It works fine for me, albeit a little slower than I thought it would. I'm running a 20Mhz Mylex board with 4 MB of RAM and have an EGA NEC Multisync. While I don't run TOPS under DESQview, I do run Novell Netware 2.0a under it with no problems. Interestingly, my '286 ADS AT clone at home now has an "All Chargecard" from All Computers Inc in Toronto (416/960-0111). One of the most amazing cards I've seen. It turns all my extended memory into LIM 4.0 expanded memory. With respect to DESQview, I don't need the QEMM '386 expanded memory manager, yet I can *run* as many programs in the expanded memory under DV as I have room for. The home machine has a mono display with a Hercules clone card. The system performance seems *faster* than my work '386! Both machines have a 2 MB ram cache.
