[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Simple graphics on a PC clone... Advice for the needy?

*** HELP *** A SIMPLE QUESTION FOR ONE WHO KNOWS THE ANSWER ***

I am currently trying to do some simple graphics (e.g. horizontal
and vertical lines) on a PC clone using the Microsoft Quick C
compiler. I have tried every way in software to find out what
video configuration is on the computer but to no avail. I have
also tried setting the video configuration to all the likely can-
didates and trying to generate some graphics but also to no
avail.

I have access to the Optimizing compiler as well as the Quick C
compiler, but I presume I'd have the same trouble using it.

I know that the machine (a Tech 1000, I think) does graphics as
the programs I run (including Microsoft Quick C) draw lines on
the screen with semi-wild abandon. The machine has a Hercules
B&W card in it, I'm told.

I'd like to know what I'm doing wrong and how to get around it.
If that fails, I'd be very thankful for reasonable sugestions.

Please send e-mail as I don't usually read news.

Thanks VERY much in advance,
