I am looking for a decent ANSI.SYS driver for use with PC/VI (a VI clone for the PC). I have FANSI-CONSOLE and (at least the version I have) screws up the graphics mode of my Zenith EGA video card. The ANSI.SYS that comes with the Zenith 386 works okay with PC/VI but doesn't allow PC/VI to use al and dl (TERMCAP for add line and delete line) which makes screen updating much less optimal. I think I've tried NANSI.SYS and ANSIIBM.SYS with no better success. Any tips ? Please email responses. Thanks. Cheers, Dan Ts'o 212-570-7671 Dept. An update. I tried NANSI.SYS again and found that it does work
using only al and dl -- using AL and DL hangs the machine. However, it also
only works once. The second invocation of PC/VI freezes the keyboard.
In addition, using NANSI.SYS hangs the program NSWP (a handy directory and
ARC file browser). It seems to fail on highlighting (ESC [7m I think).

Any better ideas ? BTW the version of FANSI is 2.03 .

A final update (I hope). The newest versionof NANSI.SYS I now have
works okay, IF you only use al and dl, not AL and DL. Also you can't use
DC (delete character). These three ANSI sequences hang my machine with
NANSI.SYS (when issued by PC/VI, I don't know about in general). But I can
live with that. NSWP also works now, as does my EGA card. NANSIS.SYS did not
work.
With so many comm programs emulating VT100's, you'd think someone could
get a good ANSI.SYS to work. I realize that some of these problems are probably
the fault of PC/VI and that an MSDOS driver is harder to write than the screen
portion of a comm program.
program.

The latest version (V3.00A) of FANSI supports EGA and VGA displays. The new version is no longer share ware and is not posted to BBS systems. It even supports the AT&T VDC750's 640x400 Extended EGA graphics mode. I have never had any problems with it when using PC/VI. Loran Yourk ihnp4!ihlpf!lyourk att!ihlpf!lyourk
