[comp.sys.ibm.pc] wordstar problem

burgin@ecsvax.UUCP (Robert Burgin) (04/01/88)

We're running Word Star on an IBM XT with a Juki printer.
For months, we've had no problems. Suddenly, Word Star
has developed two problems: (1) it only prints double-spaced;
and (2) it refuses to load files from floppies. I've tried
all sorts of tricks to turn off the double-spacing but to no
avail.

Worse, the staff is accusing me of sabotaging the program,
because I've tried (unsuccessfully) for months to get them
all to switch to Microsoft Word.

Any help would obviously be appreciated.

One of the people in my office just bought a zenith z159 with a zenith vga
card and a high resolution monochrome monitor. When he tries to run Wordstar
on it he cannot see what he is editing because the program displays the text
in a color which translates to black on a monochrome screen. Is there any way
to correct this (either configuration or whatever). We can't find a configure
function, so we are stuck. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mitch Baltuch

Try looking for a program named "WINSTALL.COM" or WINSTALL.EXE. This is the
installation program that comes with wordstar. If you have it, it will let
you alter the screen colors.

If he is running release 4 or 5, use WSCHANGE to change the screen colors.
If he is using and older version, I *think* you can change it by digging out
the original disks and reinstalling it!

Inf he is running the older version, he really should upgrade. It isn't all
*that* expensiive, and release 4 is good and 5 is *very* good!

Actually the "WINSTALL" program will allow you to specify what to install,
including something that has already been installed ... for example to change
colors ...
