Thanks for the responses to my query about joystick info.
Josef Moellers came up with a real good tip about the article
in Circuit Celler Ink. After some research, I came up with
a phone number and address for them and ordered the back issue
(yet to come) that contains the article (issue #4, cost: $4.00).

Tim Margeson provided some assembly code and has critiqued my
attempts to translate it into C (the effort is still ongoing and
his help has been much appreciated :-)). Clarence Dodd came up
with good stuff which works for AT and later machines, but (as
he pointed out), does not work for the lowley XT clone that I have
at home. I missed the USENET stuff for a week so I do not know if
there are any other responses to my plea for help. Again, thanks
to everyone for the help!
