hello out there netlanders ... I was trying to import a MSDOS WORD4.0 document into the MAC's Word 3.01, but am having a few problems. The file was transfered using kermit in binary mode from the PC to a UNIX host and then with Red Rider in kermit binary to the MAC. 1) I am not to familiar with the MAC version of Word 2) I was able to open the file on the MAC, however all formatting was lost. The format control was shown as little squares (undefined character in the screen font?). Icon did not show Word's ID does anyone here do this kind of stuff? ... anything I missed in the process? and ultimately, what is the cause of the problem? Thanks to all! The format control was shown as little squares (undefined > character in the screen font?). Icon did not show Word's ID It sounds like you did the transfer right. You should be able to just open the document, although Mac Word was not the creator, so the icon will be a generic document icon. Boxes would seem to indicate ascii character values that are not defined for the particular Mac font you're using -- you could try changing the font (?). But you should see the standard kinds of formatting (bold, underlining, indents, tabs, etc.). If worse comes to worse, try converting it to IBM DCA format first, then transfer it, then open it with the utility "DCA Conversion" which comes with Word, and transfer it to Word. -- - Scott
