Recently, I purchased a Seagate ST-251. The drive comes with a Western Digit WDXT-GEN controller with no manual. The drive is not low-level formated. Could any one tell me the details on running the format program on the controller? Since the ST-251 is 'nonstandard' to my PC-XT compatible. I need to dynamically configure the disk parameters: number of cylns, number of heads, precomp cylns, ... etc. According to the manual of the ST-251, this drive does not need current precompensation. What should I typed in when asked about precomp cylns, reduced write current cylns, etc? Thanks in advance! ============================================= Cheng-Lee Nee Phone: US mail: 513-878-9400 208 B South Huron Ct. Fairborn, OH 45324 =============================================

I almost forgot another question. What is the best interleave for a XT compatible with 8088 running at 4.77 MHz? In one of Peter Norton's book says 6:1 and the value you typed in is 5 when low-level formating the hard disk. In another book I found (I don't recall the name of it) says also 6:1 but the value you typed in should be 6. Who is correct? ============================================= Cheng-Lee Nee Phone: US mail: 513-878-9400 208 B South Huron Ct. Fairborn, OH 45324 =============================================
