yes. years ago, Control Data told us that disk drives should be physically formatted in the same orientation that they are going to be run in. also, that the drives should be run horizontally or vertically -- but not at an angle. we never saw any evidence that this was true... but it doesn't sound like a bad idea...

My (early) st238 Product Manual is worded a bit clumsily, but indicates that either "horizontal" or "on side" is acceptable. If on its side, you must make sure the spindle motor is to the left or the right :-) Don't tilt by more than +/-5 degrees front to back, and "should be formatted in the same orientation as it will be mounted in the host system." -- -- bob,mon (bobmon@iuvax.cs.indiana.edu) -- "Aristotle was not Belgian..." - Wanda
