                         Call for Participation

              IFIP Working Group 8.1 Working Conference on

    Environments to Support Information System Design Methodologies

         4-6 September 1985; Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, USA


IFIP Working Group 8.1 (Design and Evaluation of Information Systems) is
organizing  a  working conference to explore various factors that affect
the information system development  environment.   The  conference  will
have   several   workshops   combined   with  invited  presentations  on
information system development environments.

Presentations have been solicited in the areas of

(1)  Hardware advances -- workstations, laser printers, local  networks,
     etc.

(2)  System development tools and their integration

(3)  Database design support tools

(4)  Documentation support tools

(5)  Support for geographically distributed design

(6)  Ergonomic and human factors considerations

(7)  Organizational aspects

The planned outcome of the conference is a  series  of  position  papers
written  in  the workshops.  These papers will then be edited for future
publication.

Attendance  will  be  limited  to  150  persons  with  geographical  and
organizational  balance.   Individuals  wishing  to  participate  in the
Working Conference should apply either to the  General  Chairman,  Prof.
Anthony I. Wasserman, Medical Information Science, Room A-16, University
of California, San Francisco, CA 94143 USA, or to the Program  Chairman,
Prof.   Peter   C.   Lockemann,  Institut  fur  Informatik,  Universitat
Karlsruhe, Zirkel 2, 7500 Karlsruhe 1, Federal Republic of Germany,  not
later than August 15, 1985.  Applicants should enclose a brief statement
of their backgrounds and their preferred area(s) for workshops.
