Can someone tell me how to create the equivalent of the UNIX initialization files .exrc, .profile et al for the MKS package of UNIX-like utilities on MS-DOS? I realize that these filenames are illegal in MS-DOS (because you can't have more than 3-letter extensions). It would be handy to be able to set up my personal preferences for vi, e.g. 'set eightbits', 'map! ^[OB ^[^[OB' etc. without having to explicitly set them EVERY time I enter the editor. Much obliged, Steve. -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Steve Lane, UUCP: ...[yunexus, utgpu]!geac!geaclib!steve Software Solutions (416) 221-2830 108-755 Steeles Ave W, Willowdale, Ontario, M2R 2S6.

Not on your life, buddy. The subject is covered *very* thoroughly in their
excellent documentation. They have done a fine job on a product they sell
very inexpensively.

As you pointed out, we've had to alter the usual names to something palatable to DOS. Here's a list of most of them. .exrc --> ex.rc .profile --> profile.ksh .environ --> environ.ksh sh_history --> sh_histo foo.c,v --> foo.c (in our RCS package) Most of these (if not all) are mentioned in the manual somewhere. If you're still have trouble getting set up, give me a call. -- Gerry Wheeler Phone: (519)884-2251 Mortice Kern Systems Inc. Rick, you beat me to it, If Steve purchased the package legally, the answer to his question is in the very good documentation provided by MKS. Otherwise, GO BUY IT... Benoit. You can buy the toolkit for a little more than $100 (maybe $150, I don't remember) through your favorite mail-order place. And it is WELL worth what they charge... ---------------------------------------- Benoit Menendez ARPANET : benoitm%hpmwtd@hplabs.hp.com UUCP : ...hplabs!hpmwtd!benoitm
