[net.general] The "Chestnut" chess playing program

janeric@regler.UUCP (Janeric Larsson) (05/10/85)

We are two enthusiastic chess programmers from Lund, Sweden. Since
1978 we have been writing chess programs, and our present program
"Chestnut", now two years old, is written in Pascal and runs on a
VAX 11/780, at a rating of about 1600 - 1800. Our main interest is
fancy evaluation functions, but our current project is to convert
the program to C and increase the speed with a factor of 10 (we hope).
If we succeed in doing this, we will have quite a strong program.
(A rating over 2000? Who knows?)

We have observed that there is a newsgroup "net.chess" on the Usenet,
but the sad and true story is that this newsgroup is not transferred
over to Europe. Thus, we don't know if there is any action going on.
If someone is interested, please contact us. We would like to set up
a mail distribution list. And it would be very nice if someone mailed
"net.chess", (i.e. the contents of the newsgroup), to us.
