This is a problem I'm having on a portable XT clone with a herc-clone video adapter and a built-in ttl-level monitor. It goes like this. A short diagonal line appears to "float" behind the regular text on the screen. The line varys in length and appears to follow the track of the vertical retrace lines (I think thats what they are... the 7 or so lines you can see going diagonally accross the screen if you turn the brightness up all the way) but is the same intensity as the characters. The line usually floats on and off the screen in the lower right corner. It does *not* follow the regular pixel pattern and appears while the screen is in text mode. That's when things are relatively well behaved. Sometimes these lines appear all over the screen and the screen begins to roll vertically in an unstable fashion. The severity of the problem is not related to how long the system has been on. Sometimes it behaves very badly after being on for a short time while other times it can be on for hours with no trouble. I'm amazed that the electronics can produce such an effect (not that I'm an expert). Can anyone give me some clues as to what I'm dealing with here? Many thanks. -- John Wright ///////////////// Phone: 902-424-3805 or 902-424-6527 Post: c/o Dr Pat Lane, Biology Dept, Dalhousie U, Halifax N.S., CANADA B3H-4H8 Cdn/Bitnet: lane@cs.dal.cdn Arpa: lane%dalcs.uucp@uunet.uu.net Uucp: lane@dalcs.uucp or {uunet, watmath, utai, garfield}!dalcs!lane
