[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Dell fix for hardware problems

josephs@ttidca.TTI.COM (Bill Josephs) (10/17/88)

Just a follow-up: I bought a Dell 310 which was delivered about 3
months ago. About 2 weeks ago, it started reporting a parity error.
I reported it to them on a Monday morning. They suggested dropping
TSRs, etc. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, I tried several
alternatives, none of which worked. Thrusday morning, they decided to
swap the mother board. Friday, the local Honeywell-Bull repairman
showed up with a new board, which went in within 20 minutes. Unfor-
tunately, it didn't work, so on Monday, they scheduled another swap
out. Accomplished Tuesday afternoon. Since then, things have been
flawless.

Dell's response was satisfactory (I have a working machine), despite
the fact that the problem should never have occured the first time,
and the second board should have been good.

If there is anyone selling computers which never fail, please
let me know who they are. Chip do fail, even if you make your
own, even. Why do you hold Dell at fault?

	Agreed.
