I have received the Winter 89 edition of the DAK Industries catalog. On page 7 is a 286-clone that is selling for $1999 with lots of goodies thrown in. The manufacturer of the system is VTI. The article claims that VTI has been in business for 103 years and is a 9 *billion* dollar company. Has anybody ever heard of VTI? Has anybody ever purchased a system from DAK Industries? Thanks in advance for all responses. Please send email and I'll summarize.

I don't know anything about this new system, but I bought a portable from them about a year and a half ago, with mixed results. The first one (isn't that a great start?) had some type of drive problem, so we sent it back. DAK has a 30-day return-for-any-reason policy, and it was really no problem at all. The second one apparently had some RS232 problems because I never could get my modem working with it. I called their technical support and talked to someone who spent lots of time telling me what a communications god he was and how the port wasn't really broken, but that the problem was that I was a stupid idiot. This incident was my only real complaint with DAK, and was easily fixed by talking to someone else. Anyway, we sent that one back, too and finally got a third one, which seems to do everything, and is still working. To summarize my semi-harangue, I've gotten quite a few things from DAK and am generally happy with their support and their return policy. Another nice feature was that this computer was also part of a package and they let me send back just the piece that wasn't working, instead of having to repack everything and possibly getting back a broken something else.
