I just read an article in PC Week that warns about souped up 80386 chips. I would like to get a little more info on this topic since I have recently purchased one. I have a 80386 from Gateway 2000 that is running at 20 MHZ and is the 80386-16 chip. The first weekend (last weekend) I left it up and went out for a while. When I came back the computer was off and every thing else was still on. When I read the article this morning I realized that the system shut itself down because it was running faster than the chip was intended to run. I will be using this computer for tracking the stock market and can't have my system doing quirky things. I am thinking of trying to get my money back but would like to get some ideas from the net. If I slow my speed down to 16 MHZ will that be ok? I really like to system otherwise. BTW I have left it up since it went down with a fan on it and it hasn't gone since (don't know if the fan really works or if it is fooling me).
