[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Above boards & 386sx

wirun@cpsc.ucalgary.ca (Da Ratt ) (11/01/88)

I've got an AT clone and I want to think about the possibility
or upgrading it to a 386. I've seen the Intel Above board advertised
here and there. Do you need to possibly buy faster memory (i.e. replace
your existing memory) to go along with the memory on the Above board?
(is there memory on the Above board?) What happens to the existing 286?
or better yet, what can you do with it? Is everything I have already going to
be able to run transparently with the board?

Also, since some of the big names are making machines with the 386sx
chip now, will there be boards/adapters/etc that we will be able to buy
to get more oomph out of our 286's? It seems to me that the 386sx option
will be cheaper, but it might be a while before we see any add-on stuff
available.
