First of all, my thanks to the many people who responded to my net.plea for a Wyse 50 emulator on an xt. They all recommended a package called procomm +, which *incredibly* coincidentaly was just distributed on the net (in test form). I naturally grabbed it as it arrived and gave it a whirl (BTW anybody else have trouble d'arcing the manual - I got a CRC error) I have some observations on the package that I'd like verified/refuted, if possible. Because the host I am using (an ADDS Mentor 2500) knows all about the Wyse50, it really put Procomm + to the test. I found several things missing from the emulation, so tragic, others, well ... who cares. They are as follows: o Improper use of the function keys - I could not properly program the function key line (Did not break headers or respond to Shift mode), nor did it send back the 'standard' sequences. From my *brief* reading of the docs, this may be a problem that goes away when one buys the real package. o no 132 column mode. I don't really care about this, but the Mentor noticed (Some screens are supposed to be presented in 132 mode) o It did not keep up to 9600 baud at all (and I have a fast XT, so it ain't the computer!), and in fact had trouble at 2400, which is the speed at which I would like to use it. I believe it is when the clear-to-end-line control code is sent that it slows down - normal text seems all right. This represents a problem for me. o It crashed when I tried to address the Message line (the line above the top line of the screen). Since most of the packages I want to run use this line as a status line, I must find out why this occurs. Well, that's it for the moment. Again, my thanks to all those who pointed this program out, both by news and by email. I also want to put in a pitch for more packages like this - shareware test versions of obviously usefull packages.
