[comp.sys.ibm.pc] IBM sound synthesizers

MSPINNER@POLYGRAF.BITNET (11/18/88)

Hello out there,
Does anybody have, own, seen an IBM sound card? I have just recieved the
Adlib synthesizer board from a Boston company through Sierra who are now
supporting the cards for their games. Does anybody know the technical

details of how the board was built, comparision to the ST and Amiga sound
chips and those systems music construction programs (I happen to also own
a Amiga 1000, Sonix and DMCS and AudioMaster) I seems that the IBM standard
is quite different for instrument files and contain only 54 bytes of info w
whereas IFF and raw data files for the Amiga are larger, about 12K to 35K.
Not only that, but can instrument files be modified on the IBM?
Does anybody fiddle around with an alternate system and also know about the
two or at least the IBM sound card? If there's enough info this could be the
beginning of a new SIG and not just another byproduct of waste of bandwidth.
Let's hear from everyone who has an opinion! It's about time the IBM stopped
beeping!!!
