[comp.sys.ibm.pc] PC video output to VCR?

phl@sfsup.UUCP (+Listowsky P.) (11/10/88)

I have an IBM PC XT with a Quadram EGA prosync board
(and a Sony multiscan monitor).

IS there any way for me to send my PC's video output
to a video tape (via VCR) ? How?

My goal is to use the PC as a character/graphics
generator - to overlay such things on tapes of movies, etc.

Can it be done?
Can it be done with easily accessible parts?
Can it be done with easily accessible parts cheaply?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, but those RCA connectors on the back of your EGA card are ->NOT<-
composite video outputs. Although it seems like it would be easy to do,
the EGA card uses different scan frequencies that would make both EGA and
NTSC (regular) video output a bear. The only way to use the PC for char-
acter generation is to get a CGA card (bleah!) which does have composite
output. The only consolation is that they're cheap now -- you can get one
for under 30 bucks if you look hard enough. That's how I do my video
titling.

Good luck.
