Hi all. Someone had asked for people's experiences with ST255 drives. Well, here comes my $0.02 worth. We have an entire office full of the things (approx. 40) and have no real complaints. Out of all of them, only one has failed in the past year. I have no real problems with this survival rate, particularly as they are being exposed to the less than tender mercies of our staff. Moving PC's without parking the heads, turning the system unit on it's side and running it on the floor, you name it, they've done it (and asking the Computer Dept. _afterwards_ if there'd be a problem!) Naturally, all key files are stored on our Novell File Server's disks and are backed up daily onto tape. The HD's are just a convenience for novice users and a safety net in case the network bombs (but thats another story) Are we in for a rash of dead drives soon? Fortunately, we are in a position where we can pull a dead drive, put in a new one, reinstall all the software from the (yes, LEGAL) archives, and the person is up and running again. I'd be curious to hear other peoples experiences with these drives. Are we the only site that hasn't been burned by ST255's? Jim Roberts -- LIVE: Jim F.
