[comp.sys.ibm.pc] ST225/Seagate thoughts

Before I contribute my $.02 worth to the conversation re: SeaGate, I just wanted to express my utmost thanks t ALL of you for taking the time to write about your Seagate experiences. As a SysOp of a BBs specializing in integrating Macintosh and Ibm under an academic-setting message base, my disks are EXTREMELY important to me, and one of them is an ST225 (bought this March). The other is a 251-1. I figured that the extra speed was worth it- and BOY WAS IT EVER.

ok... now my reviews:
ST225 - no complaints whatsoever. It has never failed in anything except an occasional disk mis-read/mis-write, which is to be expected of a drive that is running 24 hours and 7 days!!!! (several HOURS worth of spinning every week!) Norton's DiskTest takes care of any occasional failures, however...

ST251-1 - 40megs at 28 ms... It is terrific- it has a lot of bad clusters, however. I lost some 32K one partition and 64K on the other- starting from 64K when it was first formatted... over the three months I've had it, it has slowly developed other bad clusters... who knows why? Maybe I bumped it or something??? It doesn't fail ever, and the incidence of mis-I/O is much less than that of the 225... it runs more often than the 225 by a factor of about 3-4, since it runs the BBs (the other only holds files)

,
and the backups (in another partition)- again 24 hours and 7 days...

Any word about the 251-1 from you guys???

Thanks Again
