[comp.sys.ibm.pc] What is the PKARC/PKXARC status?

garvin@ncsuvx.ncsu.edu (Michael A. Garvin) (11/22/88)

Could someone fill me in on the status of the lawsuit over PKARC and
PKXARC? I maintain a series of archives for our university to use, and I
need to know what to do with all of the files I have online. I ARCed them
with PKARC, and I distribute them with PKXARC so that the users can extract
them. Will I have to re-archive all these files, or can I leave them and
continue to go about my business? Or, if I do have to change their format,
is there an easier way than to PKXARC them, re-archive them, etc.?
Thanks!

I am curious about this too. Did anyone happen to collect the discussions
of the whole lawsuit that appeared for about a month on the net? I'd like
a copy if someone has the articles. (e-mail is fine, but others might be
interested in a posting).

If you have access to CompuServe, log on and check out the PC Magazine
Editorial forum (GO PCMAG, then GO EDITORIAL). There are two files available
in LIB 0 of the forum which contain the complete text of a lengthy exchange
between the two principals, Phil Katz of PKWARE, and Andrew Foray of SEA.

It is very interesting, and the present positions of each are disclosed, too.

The archives in question can be reposted here, but I am unable to do it as
I am not familiar with the methods of posting files on the net, being a new
user.
