[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Removeable media alternative

hysell@kodak.UUCP (john hysell) (12/02/88)

Someone was interested in removeable media for
storing archival information for a modest price. Verbatim offers a PC DOS
device called the 6.6 Subsystem for under $300 US. This is a half-height
5-1/4" floppy drive which reads 360K, 1.2M, and 3.3M diskettes, and can read and
write to 6.6M diskettes (also sold by Verbatim). The data transfer rate is 500 kbs (twice the rate of 360K floppi
y drives), and mounting rails, cables controller card and driver software
is included. Front bezels come standard in black, but beige bezels are
available for the asking. I have used these devices in PCs, XTs and ATs,
as well as in several 'close clones' of each under DOS 2.1, 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3.
6.6 media (provides 5.5 megs of formatted storage) is priced at $70 for a 5-pack.
