[net.general] Crypt algorithm

I am looking for a crypt algorithm.  They seem to be hard to get, as
everybody wants to keep them secret.  But does anybody know where I
could start searching, or does anybody know of an article written on
the subject ?
I would be thankful if somebody could help me.
