[comp.sys.ibm.pc] PC Tools Deluxe Version 5

mg32+@andrew.cmu.edu (Michael Ginsberg) (11/22/88)

I ordered this product many weeks ago (like 8 or 9). I got a letter on the
15th of November (dated the 1st of November). It said that they were going
to be taking more time to write the thing (you mean it isn't done and they
were advertising it 2+ months ago?!?!?) and if you wanted your money back,
they'd refund it, else you'd get it 'soon'. I chose to keep my order placed,
as I really want the program.

Portions of the letter:
"...We are currently putting the final touches on the product and have even
added some new features that were not planned for release until next year. An
example of one of these is the ability to run any keyboard macro at a set time
from the Appointment Scheduler. This means appointment alarms can pop up a
notepad with meeting notes, pull up a database record and dial a phone number,
or run a program at a set time at night, such as the PC Tools Compress program
which will unfragment your hard disk when you are not there.

We wanted to take a little extra time now to make sure that PC Tools Deluxe is
even more that you hoped for when you placed your order. We apologize for the
delay in shipping, but we want to assure you that the delay shouldn't be for
too long and all back ordered shipments will be made in time for holiday sales,
hopefully, if not sooner.

If for any reason this slight delay will inconvenience you, you may elect to
cancel your order. If you wish to do so, please write your name and customer
number [ed: No, I don't know what a customer number is. I certainly don't
have one.] on the enclosed postcard and return it to us.

If we don't here from you, we will send you PC Tools Deluxe version 5 just as
soon as it is ready. We appreciate your understanding and are confident that
you will find PC Tools Deluxe version 5 well worth the wait."

Just a warning to anyone going to their local computer store:

I ordered PC Tools Deluxe Version 5. I got a box with a sticker
on it that read:
Part ID: Del PC Tools Deluxe V4.3

And another sticker:
Includes $5 upgrade to version 5!

This would lead you to believe that version 5.0 (a $5 upgrade value)
has been included in the package. NOT SO! What it did include is
a card that you can send to Central Point Software along with your
check for $5 (plus $3 shipping). THEN they will send you version 5.

I also ordered this product, but went through a mail order house
(Software Central). When my order arrived, w/o PC Tools, I called and was
told that THEY are being told "December". No more granularity than that,
and they are already a quarter of the way through December.
