[comp.sys.ibm.pc] 80286? 80386? SUN386?

ephram@violet.berkeley.edu (12/10/88)

We are looking at buying one of a variety of machines. The
choices are between 80286 based AT, 80386 AT and a SUN 386i.
What we need to do is controll real time events (LED's, signal
generation, response aquisition, attenuator setting, etc...)

The things that we need are

1) some way to stay DOS compatible while being able to take
advantage of all the nice features of the processor (large address
space)

2) real time controll of events to the msec. minimalistic interupt
latency (100 usec).

3) fast computation of lengthy arrays

4) AT bus compatible

5) can the 386 be switched into virtual mode easier than the 286?

6) any other thing that you would inform your mom of if she were to
express interest in any of these machines.

I'll summarize to the net if there is an interest expressed.

We must prevent those commies from compromising the integrity of our
precious bodily fluids. -Gen. Jack D. Ripper
